A Kitchen Above the Snow
Setsu Niseko opened in December 2022 with 190 apartment suites in Hirafu. Studios begin at 41 square metres and the four-bedroom penthouse reaches 324 square metres. A full kitchen and washer-dryer sit in even the smallest studio, while restaurants and onsen gather the rest of the evening within the building.
A Kitchen and a Washer-Dryer
Even in a studio, the kitchen is fully functional. There is a Miele induction hob and oven, along with a refrigerator, dishwasher and coffee machine. A washer-dryer and iron are also in the room.
Over several nights, this makes a noticeable difference. Groceries can go in the fridge and be warmed before an early start. Wet base layers and children’s clothes can be washed the same day, ready for another morning on the mountain.
Room types range from studios through one- to four-bedroom suites, followed by three- and four-bedroom penthouses. Three-bedroom suites measure 141 to 172 square metres, with an en-suite bathroom in each bedroom. The living room and table remain the shared centre of the apartment.
All four-bedroom suites, three-bedroom penthouses and four-bedroom penthouses have their own private bath supplied with natural hot-spring water. These belong to the accommodation itself, separate from the reservable private onsen rooms in the wellness centre.

The category is only the beginning of the decision. Outlook, floor plan, bedding and maximum occupancy vary within the collection, and photographs are representative rather than a promise of one precise layout. One- and two-bedroom suites include a tatami area; only selected studios and larger categories do. Families planning to use a futon should therefore compare the complete room name and occupancy shown for their dates rather than relying on bedroom count alone.

Wood, Washi and Tatami, with Niseko Beyond the Window
Wood is used throughout; washi paper, shoji screens and tatami bring in Japanese elements while the palette stays restrained.
In that quiet room, the eye goes to the window. Some room types have a daybed along the windowsill, close in spirit to an engawa. The outlook varies by room orientation: Mount Yotei, Niseko Annupuri, the lights of Hirafu village or the internal courtyard. The category name identifies the direction, making it an important detail when reserving.
In the larger suites, tatami areas flow from the living space. In the three- and four-bedroom penthouses, floor-to-ceiling windows and wide terraces bring the mountain closer still.
Niseko’s weather brings hours indoors. Setsu keeps the changing mountain and the life of the room close through that time.
From Ramen to Tempura, All Under One Roof
Setsu describes six dining concepts under one roof, although the collection, opening days and seasonal schedules should be checked for the dates of a stay.
The range is intended to carry more than one kind of evening, from relaxed Japanese and Western dishes to ramen and a more formal counter experience. Tempura Araki centres seasonal omakase around a hinoki counter, while other venues follow their own seasonal calendars. Advance reservations matter in winter, and some menus require notice before the day of dining.
Private catering may also be available within the apartment. On a night of heavy snow, dinner can remain within the building, followed by the lift back to the room. Breakfast inclusion, however, depends on the chosen accommodation plan; it should be confirmed on the Expedia rate rather than assumed from the room category.
Onsen and Spa, Close at Hand
The wellness facilities cover 750 square metres: separate male and female onsen and sauna, four private onsen rooms, Rikka Spa, a 24-hour gym and the Studio En yoga and Pilates studio. The onsen water is classified as a sodium chloride, sulfate and bicarbonate spring. Public onsen and sauna access is reserved for hotel guests.
Each private onsen room has its own changing area and requires a reservation. These are rooms in the wellness centre, separate from the private hot-spring baths belonging to four-bedroom suites and three- or four-bedroom penthouses. Availability, session details and any current charge should be checked for the stay dates.
Rikka Spa’s operating days and hours vary by season. The wellness centre has no swimming pool; its water is held in the public, private and in-suite onsen.
Morning to Grand Hirafu
Setsu Niseko is not ski-in, ski-out. Rhythm handles ski and snowboard rental within the hotel, and each apartment has a private ski locker opened with the room key. In the morning, the route runs from the room to the ground floor, then to the seasonal shuttle.
The hotel operates winter shuttle access towards the Grand Hirafu Gondola and Welcome Centre when the ski season service is running. Routes, operating dates and frequency change by season, so the timetable for the selected winter should be confirmed before arrival. Other resort shuttle stops may require a short walk from the hotel.
Setsu’s official guidance places the journey from New Chitose Airport at roughly two to two and a half hours by road, although snow, traffic and transfer type can alter it. Scheduled coaches, collection from Hirafu Welcome Centre, JR Kutchan transfers and private airport cars are distinct arrangements; availability and charges should be confirmed in advance rather than treating them as one complimentary hotel shuttle.
Several Nights in the Same Room
Over several nights, the kitchen and washer-dryer settle into the routine of the stay. The larger suites place full bedrooms around a shared living area, giving morning, dinner and the hours after skiing their own space. For a family or group, that separation is a more meaningful reason to move beyond a studio than floor area alone.
Housekeeping arrangements may differ by season and booked plan. Guests relying on a particular cleaning frequency, bedding setup or additional futon should confirm it with the selected rate before arrival.
When the Snow Gives Way to Green
After winter, the apartment looks towards a green Mount Yotei. The washer-dryer receives cycling and hiking clothes, the kitchen carries breakfast into an unhurried morning, and the onsen remains for the evening. Dining, transport and activity schedules are quieter and more seasonal outside winter, making a date-specific check especially important.
Before You Book
- Ski access: Setsu is not ski-in, ski-out. Confirm the hotel shuttle operating dates and timetable for the selected winter.
- Onsen: Public guest baths, reservable private onsen rooms and the private baths belonging to individual suites are three different options. For a hot-spring bath within your own accommodation, choose a four-bedroom suite or a three- or four-bedroom penthouse.
- Occupancy: Bedroom count does not by itself determine the permitted number of adults, children or futons. Check the exact category, bedding and extra-guest terms.
- Breakfast and dining: Breakfast is not automatically included in every Expedia rate, and restaurant opening days change with the season.
- Transfers: The winter ski shuttle, local collection and paid airport transfer are separate services. Reserve what is needed and verify current charges.
- Cancellation: Winter conditions can be strict, but rules differ between direct offers and Expedia rates. Read the payment and cancellation terms attached to the exact rate before confirming.
Is Setsu Niseko Worth It?
Setsu Niseko is worth considering for a family trip or several nights in Hirafu when the kitchen, washer-dryer and shared living space will be used. A studio provides cooking and laundry facilities for two; a larger suite adds separate bedrooms for a family or group. Compare the complete room category, occupancy and outlook to decide how much space your stay needs.
The main trade-off for skiers is access: Setsu is not ski-in, ski-out, so allow for the journey to the slopes and check the winter shuttle timetable. For a private hot-spring bath as part of your accommodation, choose a four-bedroom suite or a three- or four-bedroom penthouse. Guests in other room categories can use the public baths. Reservable private onsen rooms in the wellness centre are another option, subject to availability and the applicable charge.
